IFEX (International Freedom of Expression Exchange) advocates for the free expression rights of all, including media workers, citizen journalists, activists, artists, scholars. Here is some of the work we created for them.
November 2nd is the “Day of the Dead” in Mexico, a holiday where people gather to remember those who have passed away. This date happened to coincide with the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. So, on that day, we took to the streets of Mexico City with a OOH poster campaign featuring “journalist-themed” versions of traditional Mexican Sugar Skull designs to honour the murdered journalists of Mexico.
Abuses of power continue to threaten press freedom, undermining the ability of journalists to provide a counterpoint to the official government version of a story. Without both sides, the truth gets lost. This campaign was launched on World Press Freedom Day. (GCD Hylton Mann/Andy Linardatos, (AD Yan Snajdr, CW Tom Mednick)
Journalists were being jailed, silenced and even murdered in increasing numbers in 2019. IFEX wanted to remind people of their plight and garner support against their oppressors.
